AlNiCo Magnets

AlNiCo magnets are a sophisticated alloy primarily composed of aluminum, nickel, cobalt, copper, and iron. It is available in two distinct forms: cast and sintered, each shaped by unique manufacturing processes. The cast AlNiCo magnets possess exceptional hardness and brittleness. Consequently, machining or drilling is not possible through conventional methods. The casting process usually entails the creation of holes at the foundry. The magnets are cast or sintered as closely as possible to the desired size, effectively minimizing the need for abrasive grinding to achieve the specified dimensions and tolerances.

Magnetic Properties

Cast Alnico Magnets

Cast AlNiCo 5 is the most commonly employed form of cast AlNiCo magnets. It exhibits exceptional magnetic properties, with a high energy product of 5 MGOe or more. Consequently, it finds extensive application in various rotating machinery, communication systems, meters and instruments, sensors, and holding mechanisms. The enhanced resistance to demagnetization displayed by AlNiCo 8, with its elevated cobalt content of up to 35%, enables this particular material to excel in applications involving short lengths or length-to-diameter ratios of less than 2:1.

Sintered AlNiCo Magnets

The sintered AlNiCo magnet boasts slightly inferior magnetic properties, yet exhibits superior mechanical properties compared to cast AlNiCo materials. Particularly in smaller sizes, the sintered AlNiCo magnet emerges as the optimal choice. The sintering process also proves adept at large-scale production, resulting in parts that possess an enhanced structural strength compared to their cast counterparts. Precise tolerances can be achieved without the need for grinding.
